From Monday 3 February 2020 there is a traffic management plan and the reporting system introduced to notify Hills Group of suspected HGV contraventions of the plan from this date.

In brief the management plan is designed to restrict HILLS heavy Traffic to and from its Lower Compton & Sands Farm  facilities through the town of Calne.
See the plan on the left to see the restrictions.
Please also read on below to understand what the restrictions do not apply to!
Note: clicking on the plan makes it bigger and easier to read.

The reporting system provides residents with three methods of contacting the company, either by:

  • Emailing Calne.TMP@hills-group.co.uk,
  • a contact form on their website www.hills-group.co.uk
(scroll to the bottom of the home page and click the link ‘Sands Farm and Lower Compton Traffic Management plan’),
  • or on a dedicated telephone line 01793 781786.

Hills Group are particularly interested in making people aware that the traffic management plan only applies to HGVs over and above 7.5 tonnes in weight and that are either collecting or delivering ’material’ from either of the Company’s sites at Sands Farm or Lower Compton.   The traffic management plan does not apply to LGVs or vehicles:

  • below 7.5 tonnes;
  • carrying out deliveries or collections in Calne Town Centre area off the A4; and
  • belonging to Hills and passing through Calne that have not made a collection or delivery from either of the Company’s sites at Sands Farm or Lower Compton.

Quarry products can come for other sites delivering in or around Calne.

Lorries which aren’t Hills and therefore don't come under this scheme:

Wiltshire Concrete
JJ&S
RF Waste
Biffa
Grist
Suez etc
